The maritacas arrive at the reserve through different paths — via CETAS (Brazil's wildlife triage center network), through seizures, and through accidents — but they all share the same condition: none of them can fly, each has some form of wing impairment. That is why they stay — a bird that cannot fly does not survive released into the wild. They arrived as a group and are shown as a group: without individual names, because that is how the reserve received them.
