Tufted capuchin monkeys
Chiquinha
Tufted capuchin monkey · Sapajus apella
Cause of rescue
Illegal wildlife trade
Conservation status
Least Concern (IUCN 2021)
Chiquinha is the youngest of the eight tufted capuchin monkeys rescued from the illegal wildlife trade who live at the reserve. She grew up without a family of her own species to teach her how to live in the forest — which makes release unviable despite her age.
IUCN Red List assessment, 2021.
